Passage One
It’s no secret that many students struggle with English language pronunciation. The mysteries of phonetics can be confusing, even for people who’ve been speaking the language for many years. First, always pay attention to word stress. In English, we typically stress one syllable more than the others. For example, in the word “HAPPY,” the first syllable is stressed. A new study shows that young people today are reading more than ever before. While it’s true that most of this reading is done online, the researchers say it’s still a positive trend.
The study surveyed more than 1,000 young people between the ages of 14 and 24. They were asked about their reading habits, including how much time they spend reading, what types of materials they prefer, and where they do most of their reading.
